The language of the reporters is horrendous of course. Isn't that a universal truth, people will always prefer and be more apt to help people that look like them, talk like them? Family first? Obviously if there is war in my home country I'm a lot more invested. This is different from what the reporters did, which is to imply that certain people are less worthy, their lives are less important.

Terrific summary. I feel like people just blotted out the Balkans, also. The 1990s weren't so long ago. Sarajevo? People are acting like their hasn't been a war in Europe since WWII. I wonder if, since that conflict involved the persecution of Muslims, it's seen as... different?
