I emphasize with any discrimination. But the conflict between police and minorities is devastating, sadly I don't see any resolution this century.

Perhaps if you removed all guns from everyone then there would be less tension. But you know how almost impossible that is (for Americans to give up). Perhaps if the police was rebuilt from the ground up. Perhaps a lot of things, all of which seem far away.

Having said that maybe the way to go is to change the laws around how much the Police can be sued. Make it so that it is so expensive they are forced to go to every effort to ensure racist or badly trained cops are expelled and break through the code of silence they have.

Thanks for the comment, Brendan. One would think law enforcement can’t help but be aware of the effect their actions have on the BIPOC community, in large part, because we keep telling them. One of the things that boggled my mind were images of police violently reacting to protests against violence by police. On a certain level they seem to believe they’re untouchable.

In contrast, 25 years ago, as a white 23yo in Masschussets it was 2am, I had been drinking heavily, dropped off a girl and was speeding 100mph down the highway back to Boston. I got pulled over by a state trooper. While I had technically moved to America, I still had my Scottish drivers license. He looked at it and I after I admitted I had a few drinks but was only driving to do a girl a favour he let me go telling me to slow down and be careful. Ironically its only in the last year that I realize how much white privilege that was.
