As a grad student in my 50s, once I found myself explaining to some 20-somethings how to drive a standard transmission car without using the clutch (the cable had snapped) and one of them said, "you could totally brag about knowing how to do that!" And I said, "what do you think I was doing?" :) We should celebrate all the things we can do!

This is exactly why I support you: it started with the moments of zen and it was anchored by your newsletter analysis :-).

Oh, I hope you're right - that we'll get through this. I guess we will, one way or another. Things do look bleak. I know gov't employees being retired or fired can file lawsuits but it takes time. And trump will see that each case goes to SCOTUS. In the meantime, the FBI is being decimated. And the business at Treasury with Musk's flunkies demanding access to the nation's payment system! Really?! The system that pays out trillions of dollars a year to businesses, individuals, organizations - social security, medicare etc. Think of all the names, addresses, soc. security #s etc. OMG. Our government is being broken.

The most disturbing aspect of what’s going on in politics is that breaking the government is the only goal. It’s debatable whether trump wants to be dictator, king, messiah or all three, but he sure as heck doesn’t want to be president.

What a piece this evening, Marlon, I didn't know you were one of those "Wall Street" fellows?! Don't know why that made me smile, but it did ?! I'm glad I found you here on Substack too, and will reStack ASAP 💯👍

I saw the field sobriety test zen and got hooked. Brings the joy.

It’s a sticky wicket. Getting exposure on a platform where you are the PR guy but still remaining humble.

Hi Marlon, I am a fan. This isn't about humble bragging, but about ur post on February 3 to ur free subscibers. Comments were blocked, and only paid subscribers can contact you directly...so, here I am.

I understand ur argument about needing more paid subscribers. I wish there was a way for us Substack readers to pay a smaller amount to more writers. Right now I pay $60/year each to 6 writers. This comes out to $360/year. My NYT subscription was $48/ year. I read about 15-20 Substacks a day. I definitely believe I owe the authors some compensation. But I can't afford $5400/year for Substack.

If it were up to me I would either pay $10-30/year for 15-20 Substacks a year. (Not exact numbers, just trying to give an example.) Or I would give random amounts throughout the year to authors who have made a difference in my thinking or attitude. (Maybe this is the "buy me a coffee" thing that some writers have.)

That might not be good for writers who need a steady income. But it would allow readers to read a large variety, which I really value.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I'm a huge fan. I would have chosen to subscribe to it Substack, but didn't discover yours until I had subscribed to 6 others.

Wishing you the best!

Hey Kai- thanks for the comment. I see your point, in fact, I’ve just set up a “buy me a coffee” link, understanding that, for a variety of reasons, it may be a better option. But even if that doesn’t work for you, I still appreciate your support.

I'm sure there are other options out there, and am open to them. But for now I'll buy you a coffee!
