I feel this deeply living in conservative central Wisconsin. I hate the way I feel when I see an American flag, and you’re right; it’s because it’s so often paired with racist or Christian nationalist images. I fly a Progress Pride flag outside of my house, instead.
I'm always left wondering, which America this person or that person stands for when I see the regular American flag especially when I have to interact with them. At the very least, we get a heads up with those whose ideologies are on display.
