Goodbye 2022, Hello 2023
Happy New Year, and thank you for subscribing to The Journeyman!
As I close in on year three of writing this newsletter, I look forward to sharing more content on the economy, politics, and racial issues, as well as personal experiences from my years in finance.
Why I’ll never run for public office
Aside from my many skeletons, I could never deal with the constant fundraising necessary for public office.
But as a content creator, paid subscriptions allow me to avoid using distracting ads to generate revenue. I don’t know about you, but I hate reading an article with ads constantly popping up.
In addition to being a personal source of revenue, your financial support helps cover the cost of subscriptions and other research materials I use in my writing.
I recognize times are still pretty tough, but for free subscribers who want to support my work and can, please consider upgrading to a paid subscription.
Paid subscriptions are $5 a month or $50 annually. Founding memberships are $150 yearly for those willing to lend additional support. I will give you a complimentary paid subscription if you're a student. Paid subscribers get full access to all posts and chats, the archive, and early access to podcast episodes.
Substack’s app/chat feature
Speaking of the chats, with Elon Musk turning Twitter into more of a hellscape than it already was, I find myself using the platform less often. Instead, I've started to use Substack’s chat feature to disseminate time-sensitive and under-the-radar information, such as comments on economic numbers. Some chats will be free, but most will be for paid subscribers.
To access the Chat feature, you’ll need to download the Substack app, which is available on iOS or Android here.
In other news…
In addition to The Journeyman, I’m a little 30k words into the manuscript I started work on last year. For those new to the newsletter, I’m writing a memoir that chronicles my career in finance, beginning in Arkansas in the early eighties and ending on Wall Street thirty years later. I hope to finish the manuscript by mid-year, so stay tuned.
This summer, I had the unexpected opportunity to author an in-depth report on blockchain technology in the healthcare industry for Boston Globe Media’s digital website, STAT. At forty-plus pages, this was my biggest writing project to date. If you’re interested in reading the full report, let me know (comments are open on this post).
I’m looking forward to continuing to build this community in 2023. Thanks again for your support and encouragement. It means the world to me.
