Dispatches From a North Carolina Island
Stories from the intersection of politics, the economy, and race.
Welcome to The Journeyman, a weekly-ish newsletter written by me, Marlon Weems. For over a decade, I was one of only a handful of Black traders working on Wall Street.
A few years ago, I left “The Street” for life on an island in North Carolina, where I write about politics, the economy, and race, drawing on experiences from a career in finance spanning three decades—from my days in Arkansas when I started the state’s first Black-owned investment bank, to my time running trading businesses on Wall Street.
People tell me my superpower is my ability to simplify complicated information. Hopefully, you’ll agree.
